U.S.Medium Tank M4A2 76(W) »General Sherman«

In May 1944, the production of the M4A2 switched from the 75mm main armament to the new M1A1 76mm gun.
As the M1A1 didn't fit into the old turret a new one was developed, called T23, and the new commander's copula became standard.
The ammuniton storage changed to »wet«, so the characteristic 1-inch side armour plates of the »dry« storage could be omitted.

The modified M4A2 proved an instant success and production lasted until May 1945 resulting in roughly 2900 cars mainly produced at Fisher Tank Arsenal and Pressed Steel Car Co.
The later production batches included a massive muzzle brake for the M1A2 gun as well as the new HVSS suspension.
2073 M4A2 76(W) were delivered to Russia participating at all major battles including the August 1945 destruction of the Japanese Kwantung army.
