... in service of the Polish ally, the LWP

Studebaker US6 U2, 2.5-ton, 6x6, Cargo Truck

The Studebaker US6 U2 as well as his winchless equivalent, the U1, are easily recognizable by the short 148in. wheelbase chassis. Tank and two sparewheels were installed right between the cab and the cargo body which was still of the all-steel type. Typically, military directional tires (»MDT«) were mounted as well as the passenger mirror and the frontal name plate. Also, the wipers were still fixed to the cab instead of to the windshield itself.
As all of the 779 U2 were produced in 1941, it can be assumed that the U2 was among the first Studebakers to reach the Eastern ally in early 1942 where the »Studer« became a synonym for performance and reliability.
Due to his powerful engine and cross-country abilities the U2 was well suited for his role as prime mover in artillery units.
