"Lastkraftwagen 6,5 t Alpha (i) Typ 800 R.E."
Insterburg, East Prussia, Early 1945
The Alpha 800 R.E. heavy diesel truck, produced between 1940 and 1943, initially served only in the Italian Army ("Regio Esercito"), mainly in North Africa, Russia and occupied France.
After September 8, 1943, the Italian surrender, the Germans captured and deployed many trucks under the designation "Lastkraftwagen 6,5 t Alpha (i) Typ 800 R.E.", in Italy and abroad.
The Alfa trucks of the war age were easy recognizable thru their cab-over-engine design.
It existed also a similar medium version called Alpha 430 that could be distinguished from the 800 R.E thru the smaller dimensions, the inferior capacity and the divided front bumper..
