Assembly at the Nibelungen-Werk
Nibelungen-Werk, Halle VII, April 1943 : Welder at work on Fgst.Nr."150 027"
Assembly of the first vehicle began at the Nibelungenwerk plant at St. Valentin on February 16, 1943.
The plans had been accomplished by Altmärkische Kettenwerke (ALKETT) in Berlin.
The hull armor was originally welded together by Krupp in Essen for the Tiger (P).
After Tiger (P) production was canceled, the hulls were reworked for the new automotive layout at Eisenwerke Oberdonau in Linz, Austria.
The superstructures were welded together by Krupp in Essen.

As with most of the 8.8 cm tank and anti-tank guns, the gun tube with breech was produced by Dortmund Hoerder Hutten Verein in Werk Lippstadt. Assembly of the 8.8cm Pak 43/2 in its mount was performed by Krupp.
The Maybach HL 120 TRM motors were manufactured at the Maybach plant in Friedrichshafen.
The electric generators and motors were fabricated by Siemens-Schuckert in Berlin.
All of these component parts were shipped for final assembly to the Nibelungenwerk in St.Valentin, Austria.

At first, Nibelungenwerk was only contracted in November 1942 to assemble the chassis and Alkett was to assemble the superstructures, but in February 1943 the decision was made to have all assembly work completed at Nibelungenwerk. Alkett was still responsible for completion of two trial vehicles (Fgst.Nr. 150010 and 150011) for which Nibelungenwerk had completed the chassis. Nibelungenwerk assembled all the rest of the 89 Ferdinand (Fgst.Nr. 150012 to 150100) in operational order in April and May 1943.
