Fiat 626 NLM, 3-ton, 4x2, Medium truck
In 1939, the 626 became the first truck model by FIAT with the advanced cabin and replaced the traditional models "621" and "633".
The original version ("N" for Nafta = Diesel) was civilian, followed by the second one ("NL" for Nafta Lungo = Diesel long) with slightly longer wheelbase and finally by the military version ("NLM" for Nafta Lungo Militare) for the Army and Airforce.
A reliable workhorse, the FIAT 626 became the standard Italian medium truck and operated on all fronts.
Even France ordered some 1,650 trucks and 700 of them were in fact delivered until Italy declared war in June 1940.
The Germans made wide use of it as well after the armistice of Sep 9, 1943 and some 3,300 vehicles were produced for them by January 1945.
When production finally ceased in 1948, no less than 10,000 Fiat 626 had left the assembly lines in Torino.
