B.I.T. Mk.IV »Churchill II«
B.I.T. Mk.IV »Churchill II«
In spring 1942, two facts accelerated the deliveries of armoured vehicles to the Soviet ally : First, the U.S. and British were far behind the schedules of the 1st Protocol, and second, the Red Army had suffered enormous tank losses.
Hence, the Western allies and most of all the British reserved every tank in their arsenal for shipments to Russia.
Among those was a typical British tank development of that time, a so-called »Infantry Tank« developed mainly for infantry support.
Heavily armoured, it was poorly gunned and rather slow compared to contemporary tanks.
The »Churchill II«, obviously named after the British Prime Minister, just like the »Matilda«, had a 2-pounder OQF gun as main armament as well as the Besa front machine gun.
Though the remaining 26 sure didn't cause enthusiasm on the Russian side, they immidiately deployed them to their »Fronts«.

Note : The drawn vehicle is still lacking the track covers but has the later air intake louvers installed.
