Bronekater - Armoured Gun Boats
Concerning the Russian topography with plenty of large rivers and lakes, it comes as no surprise that the Imperial and later the Red Navy developed Armoured River Boats.
The two main concepts were pr(oject).1124 and pr.1125, the latter slightly smaller than the former.
Heavily armed with tank turrets and machine guns and motorized by strong engines they played a significant role in many major battles, securing bridgeheads and ferrying troopps, e.g. at Stalingrad, the Dnepr, Kerch, Belorussia, the Visla, the Danube (Belgrad, Budapest, Vienna) and the Oder.
More than once, they even went into combat with Axis tank units.
Glory to the heroic sailors of the Red Banner Dnieper flotilla,
participants of the assault on the fascist lair - BERLIN !
