The
Chevrolet C60L, built by
General Motors Products of Canada from 1942 on, was a so-called "Canadian Military Pattern" (
CMP) type, i.e. a vehicle designed to military needs from the start.
The most obvious feature was the somehow archaic looking cab, going through several changes during production time.
The 60-cwt 4x4 type was visually almost identical to the Ford-produced
F60L, but differed mainly in the engine (6-cyl. versus 8-cyl. resp.) and axle (banyo versus split resp.) type.
GM and Ford together produced no less than 209,000 samples of which only a few found their way into the Red Army Transport units.
Better known and also documented on wartime pictures, was a close relative of the
C60L, the
GM C60X 6x6 Mobile Workshop.
Special thanks once again to Mr. Ferdinand Hejl, Czech Republic, for providing precious informations.
