U.S.Medium Tank »M3 General Lee«, Late Production
During its production phase until August 1942, the early Medium Tank M3 »General Lee« underwent a couple of improvements.
  • The early main armament, the short-barreled 75mm M2 gun, subsequently received the new gyro stabilisation system causing the installation of a counterweight at the gun's end.
  • Such a mechanism was soon provided to the turret's 37mm M5 or M6 gun as well where the counterweight was placed beneath the gun.
  • Later, the original 75mm M3 gun replaced the M2 resulting in better performance.
  • The ventilation system was improved by two additional ventilators, one on top of the turret, the other on top of the front hull.
  • The two side doors were omitted with the right pistol port remaining in place.
  • Finally, stowage boxes were added to the front and rear and solid road wheels as well as the T49 steel track were introduced.
