Among the first armour deliveries arriving through the
Persian Corridor in early 1942 were 20 samples of the British Mk.VII Light Tank »Tetrarch«.
Due to the urgent Russian request for additional armour deliveries, these vehicles were simply taken from the First Armoured Divison stocks.
Originally developped as a cruiser tank in the late 30s, the Tetrach was lightly armoured and driven by a strong 165hp Meadows engine giving a remarkble speed of 40 mph.
With an excellent power-to-weight ratio, it was well suited to the Caucasian conditions and therefore deployed to tank units of the Transcaucasus and Northcausasus fronts.
Due to its producer, the Russian crews simply called it »Vickers VII« or »Mark VII«.
